Do you ever think about wanting to email your customers, but are afraid of being spammy?
Often times I see business owners open to starting their social media accounts, but email is generally put on the back burner. It’s like they feel like if they’re on social media, that should be enough.
Sound familiar?
While they’re both awesome independently of themselves, they really do complement each other. Here’s why:
- Social media connects you to your customers. Through your posts, videos and pictures you’re showing your customers all about your business (and who you are). Then when you interact with them by responding to comments and messages, you’re building relationships. It’s an opportunity to be social. 😉
- Email will take those relationships you built on social media and allow you more opportunities to communicate with your customers about how your business and products can help them more.
Think about it like this: social media is more of a “first date” whereas email marketing is more like the “it’s time to meet the parents.” 😉 People are protective of their email and chances are they won’t give it to you until you’ve proven to them that you won’t be annoying or spammy.
So how do you avoid being spammy when you send emails?
Just focus on expanding more on the information you post on social media and provide value for your customers (think tips & tricks as opposed to sell, sell, sell).
For example, if you have some new gorgeous scarves arrive at your store. Create a social media post showing the new scarves (textures, colors, price, availability, etc.). Then you can ask people to sign up to receive an email on 5 different ways to style the scarf. Of course, you’ll want to include a link in the email to purchase the scarves, but when you give tips to go along with the option to purchase it’s not spammy. See the difference?
It’s all about connecting first (social media), then layering in helpful tips and tricks (via email).
How could you rework a Facebook or Instagram post into a helpful email for your customers this week?
